I have been writing songs for 29 years. I am influenced by everything I
In the early eighty's Hooven was the lead singer & exclusive song writer
listen to. My influences range from the Baroque, Romantic & Impressionistic
periods to Blues, Jazz, R&B, Funk & Rock. For this reason I write within a
broad spectrum of styles. I especially like good dance music & well executed
solo's. Back in the day, pop songs always had a solo. Over the recent years,
the writers or producers have fallen away from this. It is OK for terms to
be dictated lyrically in songs. That's what makes them song's. However,
improvised solo's allow the musically uneducated listener to deepen their
tonal & melodic horizons. When one isn't a jazz or classical aficionado, It
is easier to receive improvised melodies over a basic bed of familiar chord
changes and rhythm. My audio engineer has said " That's not cool now. No one
puts solos on pop tunes these days". I believe that many of today's pop
artists or producers are pumping out products with compromised musical
content. I understand that some people aren't able to digest more
information. I prefer a little more substance and I hope my stuff satisfies
the audio hunger of some unfulfilled market.BIO
for a project he and Dave Camarda had formed called THE EMPLOYEEZ. This
project was signed to JAM Records. 95% of the music performed was their own.
A few cover tunes were reconstructed and included in their shows. The band
shared the stage with The Culture Club, Boy's Brigade, INXS, The Romantics,
The Parachute Club, Scandal and others. After that project Hooven fronted
and wrote for a project called RADIO ART. This project was more progressive.
It was an alternative to the "pop dance rock" associated with THE EMPLOYEEZ.
This project only lasted about 1&1/2 years. After that Hooven formed a
"cover band" called THE RELEASE. He left that project after a couple years.
Dave Camarda continued with the project as the front man. After that Hooven
accepted an offer to front a band called URBAN STURGEON. This project was
put together and organized by Michael Lee Jackson. Jackson wrote all the
original music performed by the band. Jackson's 1st band was THE EMPLOYEEZ.
Jackson oversaw all details related to this project including rehearsals,
bookings, publicity, production of recordings and marketing. The project
began to dissolve 1996. After that Hooven went into hibernation. In 2004
Hooven woke up and started writing music again. He also began to produce
"LOVE YOUR CHICKS". He hopes that he was totally awake when he did it.
